Operating Room Assistant
About The Position
The Operating Room Assistant ensures the availability of necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures. They assist with the timely turnover of assigned rooms throughout the day and set up rooms for the next day's schedule. This role involves setting up case carts, taking and filling inventory as needed, and functioning as an interdepartmental runner. The assistant will also answer incoming telephone calls and triage them appropriately. Additionally, they may assist with patient care, such as positioning and preparing patients, under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role also involves performing various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Requirements
- High School Graduate.
- Typically requires 1 year of experience in a hospital-based setting, preferably in the operating room.
- Must have good communication, problem solving, and prioritization and self-motivation skills.
- Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g. DNV, CARF or others).
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist and reach above shoulders at various times throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
- Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
