About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room. This role promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel. The assistant provides hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients, and families, and demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, including the location of all departments, procedure areas, and other patient services. They refer patients, families, and others to appropriate resources, and independently transport and assist in the transfer of patients. The role requires proper patient identification using two approved identifiers and ensuring safety and support measures during patient transfers, such as raised bedrails, covered patients, and warmth. Awareness of special precautions for transferring patients with specific needs is also necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience 1 year preferred
  • Operating Room Experience 1 year preferred
  • Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies
  • Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team
  • Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines
