About The Position

JLL is seeking a skilled Operating Engineer to join our critical facilities team in San Jose, CA. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment throughout our commercial building. You will monitor building systems operations, conduct routine assessments, and perform preventive maintenance to ensure continuous operation of all critical infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our facility's core systems while delivering exceptional service to our clients and building occupants.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • EPA Universal Technician Certification for CFCs (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent (if required by jurisdiction)
  • Proven background in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment
  • Hands-on experience in a critical facility environment, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgear
  • Ability to read and write effectively in English and perform basic mathematics
  • Physical ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating and maintaining building electrical, instrumentation and control systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLC) and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Strong understanding of critical facility operations and emergency escalation procedures
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, UPS, generators, and emergency backup systems
  • Operate and maintain critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers, and critical air conditioning units
  • Install and repair plumbing/piping, electrical controls, motors, pumps, air compressors, and associated building equipment
  • Conduct routine rounds, record readings, and analyze data to ensure proper operation of all mechanical and electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot building systems, determine the cause of malfunctions, and take corrective action as required
  • Oversee contractor activities within the building and ensure compliance with critical facility work procedures
  • Maintain engineering logs, building rounds documentation, and engineering data sheets
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide off-hours support during critical conditions
