About The Position

We are seeking an Operating Engineer to support maintenance and repair operations within a government facilities environment. In this role, you will operate, maintain, and repair critical base building systems including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety equipment. The position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate with contractors, and respond effectively to facility needs and emergencies. This role plays an important part in supporting safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations while delivering a high level of service to building occupants and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the electrical trade or HVAC/refrigeration trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work safely using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Physical ability to walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, and perform overhead work regularly.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Universal Technician Certification for CFCs, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience working with computer-controlled building automation systems.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Trade school education in HVAC, electrical, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience coordinating with outside contractors and service providers.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain facility systems in compliance with government regulations and safety standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Monitor building equipment performance, record operational data, and make adjustments to maintain optimal efficiency.
  • Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance situations in a timely and professional manner.
  • Conduct facility inspections, identify potential hazards, and support adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors to ensure quality and cost expectations are met.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday support as needed.
