About The Position

As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you will be a critical member of our facility operations team, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of complex building systems. This part-time vacation relief position requires strong technical expertise in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. You will demonstrate deep knowledge in one specialized craft area—such as Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations—while maintaining multi-skilled capabilities across others. Your work directly contributes to JLL's commitment to operational excellence, energy efficiency, and exceptional client satisfaction. By maintaining building systems to the highest standards and responding proactively to operational challenges, you will help create safe, comfortable environments that support our clients' business success.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or state equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of college or related trade schooling
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with high-pressure steam systems
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record
  • City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License
  • EPA Universal Certification
  • Current member in good standing with Local 399

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of building systems to optimize operating costs (especially energy) while satisfying customer requirements
  • Demonstrated aptitude for and/or practical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as computer-controlled equipment
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, including Word and Excel
  • Ability to identify, enforce, and assess safety hazards and risks with participation in incident investigations
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex facility equipment issues
  • Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with clients, contractors, and team members

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate facility systems in accordance with all applicable government and regulatory requirements while demonstrating and enforcing safety rules and behaviors
  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, control, and fire/life safety systems to maintain building systems at applicable standards
  • Maintain HVAC systems and equipment at optimum levels through cleaning, inspecting, changing parts, and recording readings to ensure proper operation
  • Monitor pricing and work quality of outside contractors while reviewing monthly Client Service Request summaries to identify and correct recurrent operational problems
  • Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner, demonstrating JLL's commitment to exceptional service
  • Assist the site Facility Management team with emergency situations including fire alarms, chemical spills, and hazardous conditions, taking appropriate action
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace while complying with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials
