About The Position

As a Utility Worker in the Operating Engineer group, you will perform mechanical utility work in support of the maintenance function for the operating engineers in the central mechanical plant and other port owned properties. You will grease and oil machinery, change HVAC filters as well as clean equipment, tools, and various mechanical areas. You will perform minor mechanical and other work as required. You will on occasion, read water meters and assist journey-level operating maintenance engineers. You will notify the chief engineer of any job-related issues, including accidents and/or injuries. You will keep working areas clean and free of all safety hazards and observe all safety rules.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
  • Comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
  • Obtain a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Have one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Apply equity and exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices in all aspects of the work.
  • Adapt quickly as responsibilities and priorities change frequently.
  • Capable of effectively delivering information both formally and informally at all levels of the organization in both verbal and written formats.
  • Able to work with diverse staff at various levels of the organization to resolve problems while providing excellent guidance and customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years’ experience working in a mechanical maintenance environment.
