About The Position

Under supervision, operates or assists in operating assigned mechanical equipment at a sewage treatment plant, sludge disposal facility, or pumping station. Checks equipment components for normal condition and operation. Appointment is subject to successfully passing a physical examination, a drug test, an evaluation of the candidate’s ability to meet the job’s specific physical demands, and a criminal history background investigation. The probationary period is one year (250 days worked).

Requirements

• Must possess a City of Chicago Stationary Engineer's License.
• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent and three years of experience in pertinent operating work.
• Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Successful completion of a recognized training program in the operation of stationary equipment may substitute for required experience on a month-for-month basis, up to a maximum of one year.
• Must successfully pass a physical examination, drug test, evaluation of the ability to meet the job's specific physical demands, and criminal history background investigation.
