About The Position

As an Operating Engineer – HVAC, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buildings and systems across a campus-based complex. You will contribute directly to Jones Lang LaSalle’s standard of excellence by performing hands-on preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and building systems. You’ll also have the chance to provide technical support and training to colleagues, drive operational quality, and help to implement best-in-class facility management strategies within a collaborative and safety-focused environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or comparable work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of trade experience and 3 years in engineering/maintenance roles within commercial buildings.
  • EPA Certification.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, laws, and regulations (e.g., OSHA 10).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including walking, kneeling, standing, and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Proficient in use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and web-based applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational degree, apprenticeship, or higher education (college or university).
  • 10 years of trade experience and 5 years in engineering/maintenance preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification or higher, NFPA 70E knowledge.
  • Experience with CMMS, ABS, or BMS systems and handheld electronic devices.
  • Proven skill in scheduling, report generation, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, evaluate, and manage technical staff.
  • Comprehensive understanding of customer and personal service principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct preventive maintenance and repair tasks on HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building automation, card access, and building envelope systems.
  • Conduct quality control audits and inspections, reporting deficiencies and supporting follow-up corrective actions.
  • Identify, implement, and support Operations, Maintenance & Repair (OM&R) strategies for multiple buildings within a campus setting.
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance, training, and guidance to engineers and maintenance teams.
  • Ensure adherence to safety practices, proper use of PPE, and compliance with all codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Manage work schedules, prioritize tasks, and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing client needs and ensuring the highest standards of service quality.
