About The Position

This is an entry-level position designed to train individuals on the basic operations in a planer or sawmill. The role involves learning a variety of machines and tasks, with the majority of time spent standing and walking. This includes frequently picking up pieces of board from table height or the floor, with boards weighing an average of 5-35 lbs, occasionally more. The job also involves clean-up activities such as sweeping, shoveling, and lifting, with potential for heavy lifting on occasions. Upon certification on a machine, the employee will qualify for a pay increase. Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (65-85%).
  • Ability to walk frequently (65-80%).
  • Ability to perform frequent bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Ability to perform occasional twisting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, or squatting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform occasional repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to work in environments with wood dust below the PEL.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes (area not centrally heated or cooled, local heater/fan provided).
  • Ability to wear hearing protection due to noise.
  • Ability to work in cramped positions (less than 1%).
  • Ability to perform extended reach forward or overhead, push/pull/twist, grasp/handle, bend/stoop/squat (35-45%).
  • Ability to use fine hand dexterity (5%).
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion operating a control console (5-15%).
  • Frequent lifting of 5-15 pounds.
  • Moderate lifting of 16-30 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of 31-45 lbs.
  • Minimal lifting of greater than 46 lbs.
