About The Position

The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join their team. This role is for an Open Space Maintenance Technician who will play a vital role in providing front-line stewardship for public lands and facilities. The position ensures safe, healthy habitats for plants and animals while creating exceptional experiences for community visitors. The ideal candidate is passionate about land conservation ethics and enjoys hands-on outdoor work. The hiring rate for this role is $21.52 - $26.89 per hour, with salary commensurate with experience. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least two (2) years of related experience
  • Current Driver's License with good driving record
  • Ability to obtain Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months
  • Ability to obtain Colorado Basic Pesticide Training Certificate within 2 months
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 6 months
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and construction practices
  • Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety practices common to machinery and equipment utilized
  • Knowledge of effect of weather conditions on maintenance needs and procedures
  • Knowledge of land conservation ethics
  • Skills in using mobile software applications
  • Skills in working effectively with employees and citizens
  • Skills in interacting with and resolving complaints and concerns of citizens
  • Skills in communicating effectively both orally and in writing
  • Skills in maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Skills in prioritizing work assignments
  • Skills in safe and effective use of equipment and supplies
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools of assigned function
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and management

Responsibilities

  • Provides stewardship of public lands, natural areas, and open space properties
  • Performs maintenance and repair work on open space facilities and infrastructure
  • Prepares productivity and activity reports
  • Updates records and makes recommendations concerning materials and equipment used
  • Responds to and resolves complaints from residents
  • Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures
  • Implements and monitors preventative maintenance programs
  • Coordinates and completes special projects with user groups and other city departments
  • Participates in selecting and training assigned employees
  • Performs snow and ice removal
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
