About The Position

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation, in partnership with the Methodist Transplant Institute in Memphis, TN, is accepting applications for an experienced multi-organ abdominal transplant surgeon to serve as Chief of the Division of Transplantation. This is a full-time tenure track Open Rank Professor. As a leader in the field of organ transplantation for more than forty years, this transplant program provides liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, living donor organ transplantation, and general surgery to patients with end-stage organ disease in the Midsouth.

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of ASTS Fellowship.
  • Trained in an ASTS-accredited abdominal transplant fellowship.
  • Proven leadership ability, along with excellent team building, collaboration and exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
  • Licensed Physician by Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in complex liver transplantation, including pediatric and live donor liver transplantation is desired.
  • Strong interest in laparoscopic or robotic living donor nephrectomy would be preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Skilled leader with a track record of supporting excellent patient outcomes, fostering program growth, and ensuring compliance with UNOS and OPTN rules and bylaws.
  • Build and/or maintain relationships with community and internal partners.
  • Serve as the Director of the Methodist Transplant Institute and oversee surgical and medical directors, as well as the senior administrative director of transplantation, to ensure high-quality patient outcomes while broadening the reach of the Institute.
  • Participation in the training of medical students, general surgery residents, and transplant surgery fellows.
  • Participation in clinical and translational research.
  • Supervision of advanced practice providers.
