About The Position

The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is seeking a urologic surgical oncologist. This appointment will be within the Department of Surgery, in the Division of Urology. This position is being recruited at the Open Rank level; salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to patient-centered care and a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams. A strong commitment to patient care, teaching and scholarly activity is essential. Surgical care for patients with complex urologic cancers is a critical need for the patients of New Mexico. The UNM Health Sciences Center is one of only 29 institutions nationally that has both a NIH (NCI) designated Cancer Center (Comprehensive Cancer Center) and a NIH sponsored Clinical and Translational Science Center. We are the only level I ACS Trauma Program in New Mexico. UNMH has 629 beds for adult, pediatric and psychiatric care. A new hospital tower, with state-of-the-art operating rooms and expanded adult critical care capacity is now open.

Requirements

  • Board certified/eligible in General Surgery or Urology, or equivalent experience
  • Fellowship in urologic oncology
  • Eligible for licensure in New Mexico
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage cancers of the urinary tract and male reproductive organs, providing comprehensive patient care from consultation through follow-up
  • Perform complex urologic oncologic surgeries, including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures, focusing on both oncologic and functional outcomes
