About The Position

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time OP Nurse Coordinator I to join their team at The Heart and Vascular Institute. This role involves demonstrating accountability for professional development, improving the quality of professional practice and patient care, and actively participating in practice-based shared governance. The coordinator will serve as a full partner on the care team, assisting with clinical and administrative activities, and demonstrating leadership with new nursing staff and other support personnel. The position requires formulating goals and a plan of care for patients, triaging patient situations, coordinating care with physicians, and providing holistic patient care. Responsibilities include outpatient treatment follow-up, serving as a primary nursing resource, and facilitating necessary external services. The role also involves developing productive working relationships, maintaining a balance between work and personal life, and communicating safety hazards. The coordinator will assist the departmental manager with patient care planning, operations, and innovations, and actively participate in quality improvement efforts, utilizing research and evidence-based practice. They will act as a patient advocate, demonstrating critical thinking in identifying patient issues and practicing strong communication skills. The role requires teaching patients, families, students, and new staff, serving as a nursing liaison for total care plans, and supporting the professional development of colleagues. The coordinator may serve as a preceptor and be responsible for coordinating staff training and educational activities.

Requirements

Minimum 3 years nursing experience
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
CPR Certification UPMC approved national certification preferred.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Nurse (RN)

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Assist physician with all aspects of patient care including assessment, evaluation and education.

Accountable for outpatient treatment follow up necessary for patient to maintain health in between outpatient visits.
Serves as primary nursing resource to patient caseload.
Facilitates necessary services outside of the healthcare facility, interacts with homecare and other support services.

Functions as the senior nursing level assisting in the professional development and maturity of new staff members and ancillary support.
