About The Position

Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council is seeking an individual to join their Niigaaniin Team in Garden River First Nation. This role provides the full Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and requires an out-of-the-box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services. The position involves a case management approach to deliver the ODSP, including maintaining eligibility for income and employment supports.

Requirements

  • College diploma and/or a university degree in social work, OR a minimum of five years work experience in social assistance.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet and other computer applications as applicable.
  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Waawiindamaagewin.
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available to assist community members with disabilities with emergencies, supports and employment opportunities.
  • Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer / community services to community members accessing services.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with diverse populations as well as coworkers.
  • Time management skills to ensure tasks, cases are up to date.
  • Ability to learn new skills and software’s.
  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.
  • Knowledge of ODSP legislation, regulations, policy, procedures and funding arrangements.
  • Familiar with community services, networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services.
  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of duties using a case management approach to deliver the Ontario Disability Support Program.
  • Maintain eligibility for income and employment supports.
  • Case manage, both online and in person.
  • Resolve conflict using problem solving and supportive approaches.
  • Determine community members needs and make appropriate referrals through effective listening skills.
