About The Position

Posterity Group LLC is seeking an Onsite Optician to staff The Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. The Optician will be responsible for filling medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions as written by VA eye care providers, ensuring medical justification for any add-ons or communicating with providers for updates. The role involves assisting Veteran beneficiaries by greeting them, determining lifestyle needs for prescription eyewear, assisting with frame selection and making recommendations, and performing measurements for pupillary distances, segment heights, and base curves. The Optician will also answer questions related to eyeglass orders, verify prescription specifications, and perform minor repairs and adjustments to eyeglasses, maintaining an adequate stock of spare parts. A particular emphasis is placed on providing timely, high-quality services and interacting professionally with VA patients and staff.

Requirements

  • At least a GED
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience

  • Any relevant certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Fill medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions as written by privileged VA eye care providers.
  • Ensure medical justification is within the prescription for any add-ons or communicate with the privileged VA eye care provider for updates.
  • Assist Veteran beneficiaries by greeting them, determining lifestyle needs for prescription eyewear, assisting with frame selection, and making recommendations.
  • Perform measurements for pupillary distances, segment heights, and base curves.
  • Review final frame selection choice with Veteran beneficiary.
  • Answer questions relating to Veteran beneficiary’s eyeglasses and eyeglass orders.
  • Verify eyeglass prescription specifications provided by the VAMC Optometry or Ophthalmology clinics.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments (i.e. replacing a missing screw, replacing nose pads, repairing broken frames, frame adjustments etc.).
  • Maintain an adequate stock of spare parts to perform minor repairs.
  • Provide timely, high-quality services and interact appropriately, professionally, and productively with VA patients and staff members.
