About The Position

WGU is seeking passionate individuals committed to expanding access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs. As an Onsite Instructor, Prelicensure Clinical, you will be a subject matter expert responsible for teaching and mentoring students during their experiential clinical coursework. This role involves working onsite 2-3 weekdays per week for a 3-week clinical rotation, with potential variations based on monthly student enrollment. You will be part of a team supporting an assigned group of students, providing specialized instruction, overseeing clinical learning, and ensuring student success in their clinical placements. The position requires interaction with students in both group and one-on-one settings, utilizing technology-based teaching platforms, and collaborating with other professionals to foster a positive, student-focused environment. Responsibilities include responding to student needs with urgency, making appropriate referrals, communicating with coaches/preceptors, providing final approval for clinical time, and maintaining knowledge of relevant state regulations. The role is paid hourly and bi-weekly, requiring accurate and timely entry of hours worked.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing; Education is verified.
  • Two years minimum Nursing experience.
  • Work history demonstrating continuous advancement and success in roles requiring creative problem solving and collaboration.
  • Unencumbered RN license.
  • Active, unencumbered license in designated state.
  • State and federal legislative requirements and college accreditation requirements may apply to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate, or terminal degree in a specific content area.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred.
  • Terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching/nursing education.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a steward for carrying out WGU’s mission and strategic vision.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem-solving.
  • Provide expertise in an assigned content area and maintain current knowledge in their field.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and participate in, the implementation of the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • Foster students learning through innovative teaching practices; to include how to perform duties in the clinical setting.
  • Respond with urgency to meet student needs and communicate professionally and respectfully with students and all other members of the WGU community.
  • Make appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs, utilizing WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the student's assigned coach/preceptor as needed to discuss student progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval for student's clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation form(s) after completion of clinical intensive.
  • Collaborate with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere.
  • Respond with urgency to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct both in-person and/remote methods of student evaluation.
  • Support the Health Placement Team to secure clinical partnerships.
