About The Position

Looking for a healthcare role where no two days are exactly the same? UPMC Health Plan is hiring a Full-Time Onsite Health Assistant to support our onsite health clinic at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. In this hands-on role, you’ll work directly with patients while supporting the day-to-day operations of the clinic, from scheduling and patient intake to vital signs, screenings, health education, and clinical support. The Onsite Health Assistant will be responsible for making and scheduling patient appointments in an efficient and timely manner. They will assist customers in person and on the phone, providing information, and communicating with various departments. Obtain and enter complete demographic and insurance information, as well as assist with patient assessments, under proper supervision, referrals and resource integration. Provides general health education to patients and participants of Onsite Services and Onsite Health Promotion.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and first aid.
1 year work experience preferred, can include customer service, medical office, health or fitness industry, sport and rec, or related field.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office or google operating systems required.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

Graduate of a secondary education Health Sciences, Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation Therapy Technology, or Health Assistant program (or equivalent post-secondary education credit) HIGHLY PREFERRED.

Responsibilities

Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks.
Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments.
Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
Other front office responsibilities, as required.
Check schedules and organize patient flow.
Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider pertinent information including patient education as directed.
Relay instructions to patients/families.
Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.
Distribute supplies and mail to team members in person or by shipping.
Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information.
Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner.
Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
Comply with all UPMC Health System competencies, policies, and procedures.
Send/receive documentation and patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
Set up screening and education events according to Onsite Service event standards
Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading and reference materials.
Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
Develops and maintains knowledge of site-specific, UPMC and community-based health and wellness resources.
Perform evaluation of biometrics, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index and other clinical measures.
Provides patient education and wellness referrals according to appropriate guidelines and matrixes.
Facilitates collaboration between external health resources and UPMC Health Plan.
Improve and increase professional capacity through internal and external courses, training opportunities, and/or maintaining certifications.
Exhibit a presence that serves as a basis for exemplifying all UPMC values.
Adheres to standard of dress based upon client/service.
Observably demonstrates commitment to a healthy and balanced lifestyle in regard to physical activity, healthy eating, stress management, weight management and is a nonsmoker.
Perform phlebotomy, point of care testing, and level one labs.
Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
Assist RN, APP, and/or physician with procedures.
Document patient information into the medical record.
Under the direction of an RN, APP, or physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate
Facilitate telemedicine visits by appropriately using peripherals as directed by the visit provider
