About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Online Social Studies Teacher is to support the implementations of Edgenuity Platform courses and provide direct best first instruction and direct interaction with students in an online learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The teacher actively collaborates with others to promote student achievement, and ensure that each student successfully achieves personal and program goals.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire
  • Social Studies Endorsement or Teacher must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options: Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license, 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area - Core, Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series)
  • Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in content area
  • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

  • Knowledge/experience with the five components of reading and commitment to support and/or implement explicit and systematic reading instruction, based on scientific research
  • Ability to use technology and integrate technology skills into the fully online curriculum
  • Knowledge / experience teaching the diverse learner especially students who may have a specific learning plan such as an IEP, ILP, ELL, 504, etc.
  • Knowledge /experience with and ability to implement scientific-based research best practices
  • Previous experience with and ability to utilize effective small groups and whole class direct instruction strategies to differentiate instruction
  • Knowledge / experience with Positive Behavior Support Program or willing to implement the school-wide discipline plan

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods

  • Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes
  • Develop and/or support Scope and Sequence of courses in order to "pace" courses with all students
  • Monitor student academic progress regularly
  • Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement and online engagement
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Community meetings to analyze student performance (passer ratings, formative assessments, etc.) and identify/set student growth targets and/or needed online interventions.
  • Work with staff to develop strategies (instruction and curriculum) supporting student success
  • Prepare effectively for class
  • Establish clear classroom attendance expectations for students
  • Provide instruction predicated on course goals and objectives
  • Plan for both whole group and small group online synchronous learning
  • Prepare virtual classroom for virtual student participation
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Assure that grading standards are explained and available to parents
  • Establish clear classroom attendance expectation for students
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Model personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy, and consideration
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with administrators, staff, students, and parents
  • Build connections with staff, students, and parents to keep students progressing toward success, including, but not limited to; providing progress reports, facilitating student, parent, staff conferences, collaborate with team members to support student progress
  • Possess and share a general knowledge of extracurricular activities and student opportunities
  • Actively participate in PLC meetings to establish goals and objectives for student success
  • Provide documentation of students' progress
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members
  • Maintain expected student communication and document attendance utilizing identified Pueblo City Schools systems.
  • Monitor student attendance data to identify and provide interventions to students who are not actively engaged in class
  • Ensure quality and timely documentation of all interventions provided.
  • Communicate regularly with students and parents to keep the student progressing toward academic success, including but not limited to, providing progress reports, class expectations, student participation rates and when needed, arrange student/parent teacher conferences.
  • Maintain complete and accurate grading and gradebooks.
  • Ensure weekly gradebook updates by the close of business each Thursday as requested
  • Build motivation and interest in learning
  • Champion Pueblo School District No. 60 culture of assessment by ensuring active student participation in all assessments and provide active proctoring throughout the year.
  • Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area
  • Maintain a current awareness of literature/activities in subject area
  • Maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
  • Manage student behavior in the online classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
