About The Position

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent part-time Online Learning Facilitator in Gull Lake School, Saskatchewan. Online Learning Facilitators (OLFs) will be responsible for supporting students to obtain a quality online educational experience. As an OLF, you will work with students in an online learning environment and will, in most cases, be the primary point of contact for our learners. Focused on delivering a quality online educational experience, this position requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, considerable experience in relevant technology, understanding of the challenges of online learning, and the ability to work independently with respect to carrying out the duties assigned in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Work independently in an online delivery model.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to establish rapport with students.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced computer skills and experience using a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook).
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and proficiently complete multiple tasks while dealing with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • An energetic team player whom tactfully and respectfully supports students and colleagues to promote a positive work environment.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check (vulnerable sector) as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma in combination with work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Seeks support when needed (school staff) and advocates for students.
  • Follows school-based administrator’s expectations for creating DLCgo accounts/new applications, requesting courses, approving course requests, course selections, drops, etc.
  • Keeps accurate and timely documentation - student records organized/filed (i.e. files for students, timelines, marked assignments/exams, progress reports, communications, etc.).
  • May take attendance for each period.
  • Works as a collaborative team member that may include Online Teachers, Student Support Teachers, School-Based Administrators, Campus Principals or Support Staff.
  • Ensures students have necessary resources (Sask DLC materials, printables, textbooks, technology, lab supplies, etc.) as per the Resources page in each course; records and returns them.
  • Orients new students to classroom procedures and expectations, logging in, and how online learning works within their school.
  • Supervises and demonstrates knowledge and application of diverse learning supports to meet student academic needs (i.e. clarifies directions, reads questions/assignments, etc.); directs them to other supports when applicable (Sask DLC teacher, admin, etc.).
  • Demonstrates an ability to adapt to the changing needs of students.
  • Displays a willingness to learn new skills and strategies to effectively support students.
  • Coordinates, organizes, and proctors exams.
  • Updates student pace/progress tool (i.e. calendar on whiteboard, Excel document).
  • Monitors pace/progress/success (i.e. checks Moodle logs, checks grades, talks with students, talks with teachers, upcoming due dates, uses auto-forwards from Moodle, etc.).
  • Encourages students to communicate with their teachers and stay on task.
  • Displays empathy when working with students (checking in, providing support, etc.).
  • Celebrates and acknowledges success.
  • Participates in parent-student-teacher conferences when requested by the parent or administrator.
  • Collaborates with the PAA Program Coordinator to set up students' work-based placements; travels to placement locations and supervises as required.
  • Maintains accurate records of student progress at the work-based placement and provides regular reports to the PAA Program Coordinator.

Benefits

  • Salary (Level 4 $24.45/hr. to $27.23/hr.) and benefits for this position will be in accordance with C.U.P.E. 5544 Collective Agreement September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2027
