About The Position

Summit Academy North is seeking a part-time Online High School Science Teacher to deliver engaging, standards-aligned virtual science instruction. This role focuses on promoting academic achievement, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking for students in grades 9-12. The teacher will instruct three high school science courses through an online learning platform, fostering a supportive and interactive virtual classroom. Collaboration with students, families, and school staff is key to ensuring student success and upholding the school's mission and values. Summit Academy North has a 25-year history of educating students from Preschool through 12th grade in Romulus, MI, with over 1,600 students. The school is known for its powerful mentoring program, year-round professional development, and a vibrant, collaborative educational environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate required.
  • Valid Michigan Integrated Science endorsement required.
  • Strong knowledge of high school science curriculum, instructional best practices, and student assessment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students in a virtual learning environment while fostering meaningful student relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families to support student success.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • Previous experience teaching high school science in a classroom or virtual learning environment preferred.
  • Experience utilizing online learning platforms and educational technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned online instruction for three high school science courses through the school's virtual learning platform.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Facilitate synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences that actively engage students in the virtual classroom.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, laboratory activities (as applicable), and other instructional assessments.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and provide timely feedback to students.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and individual student needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive online learning environment that promotes student engagement and academic success.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding student progress, attendance, and academic performance.
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital learning tools to enhance student learning and participation.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, and other student support meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share instructional best practices, and support school initiatives.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, and school activities as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with school policies, state requirements, and applicable online learning expectations.
  • Ensure regular and predictable attendance.
