About The Position

Under the supervision of a teacher, the One-to-One Paraprofessional provides direct service to an individual student and participates in the daily instruction and activities of the assigned school, program, and class. Duties beyond normal classroom activities are tailored to the student’s needs. Students may have a wide range of disabilities or diagnoses, and may speak a language other than English. Students may be assigned to any school in the district, including examination schools, and may need support while participating in advanced coursework. In some cases, the assigned student’s needs or history may require a paraprofessional of a specific gender, particularly for toileting; the posting states this requirement is intended to protect both the student and the paraprofessional. The role collaborates with the classroom teacher to implement activities reflected in daily lesson plans, maintains open communication with parents and staff, and performs other related duties as requested by school leadership or the school-based special education administrator, particularly when the student is absent. The posting identifies the role as part of the BTU Paraprofessional Unit and states that compensation is at a contractual hourly rate; salary and compensation information is available on the BPS website. School start and end times and school-day lengths vary, and some schools have an expanded school day through the Schedule A Expanded Learning Time agreement.
