About The Position

The Oncology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. This role involves collecting and analyzing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation to determine the diagnosis or issues. The nurse performs primary and secondary patient assessments, documenting accurately and timely in the medical record. They also document changes and omissions of the identified plan and communicate systematic reports to other care providers. Coordination of care delivery and utilization of resources to promote the continuum of care are key aspects of this position. The role requires demonstrated knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy and hydration, and the implementation of strategies to promote health in a safe environment. Progress toward outcomes is evaluated and documented. The nurse identifies expected interventions and outcomes for an individualized plan of care and communicates effectively with the patient, family, and other team members, implementing the plan of care in a safe, timely, and appropriate manner. Management of patient care is based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects. The role utilizes quality and evidence-based practice to deliver and improve care, and involves working closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision. Specific to departments, the role requires knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products for Infusion/Treatment Departments, and knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom management for Radiation Oncology Departments. The ability to triage patients and coordinate with providers to ensure care needs are met is essential. The nurse must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree Nursing
  • Must complete BSN within 5 years of hire
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing
  • Must have current active multistate state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live.
  • Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.

  • 1 or more years oncology experience
  • Chemo Certification - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification preferred for Infusion/Treatment departments
