The Oncology Nurse evaluates, plans, implements, and documents nursing care for the oncology patient. The RN provides a range of patient care, including inserting IV lines, responsible for drawing blood via peripheral site, port-a-caths, and PICC’s, administration of chemotherapy, administration of immunotherapy, therapeutic phlebotomy procedures, transfusion of blood products, administering oxygen when needed, monitoring vital signs and supportive care. RN will work within independent medication orders placed within EPIC as well as within oncology treatment and supportive plans. The RN needs to be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within their field. Relies on experience and judgment to accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks, ensures quality control, and updates patient charts and infusion charges. Notifies physician of change in patient conditions.
