About The Position

This is a PRN Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Technician II position at West Hospital in Avon, IN. This role will cover other Team Members' PTO, call-offs, and provide extra staffing during busy seasons. The hours to be covered are Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm, with no weekends or holidays. The position requires prior experience with IV compounding of chemotherapy and hazardous drugs, and prior experience in an infusion center/inpatient oncology environment. Prior experience with positive pressure sterile compounding is preferred. Under pharmacist supervision, the technician supports the pharmacy department in areas such as inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Key duties include answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into the system, preparing medications for pharmacist check, and preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Additional tasks may involve handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, and distributing supplies. The role may also assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions, working with pharmacy staff to minimize medication errors, and exercising sound judgment to address potential issues and challenges.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with IV compounding of chemotherapy and hazardous drugs required.
  • Prior experience in an infusion center/inpatient oncology environment required.
  • 2+ years relevant experience required
  • Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Requires working knowledge and skills as a pharmacy technician in assigned areas and ability to work within established procedures under moderate supervision.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires effective customer service skills.
  • Requires intermediate proficiency typing and using Microsoft Office applications.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with positive pressure sterile compounding preferred.

Responsibilities
