About The Position

At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy, our focus is patient-centered care. Our level I trauma center and academic medical center campus is designed to heal the body, mind, and spirit of every person in a more comfortable, less stressful hospital environment. Our full range of medical services includes trauma services, heart and vascular care, emergency services, surgery, maternity, cancer care, and diagnostic imaging.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a RN nursing program.
  • Registered Nurse: NE, upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, within 5 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in acute care, LTC, or nursing homes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients.
  • Advocate for fellow nurses, supporting them in reaching their full potential, aligning with department's operational goals and objectives.
  • Be accountable and confident, with excellent communication skills in 1:1 interactions and in front of groups.
  • Be comfortable holding tough conversations, as you are responsible for the performance of your people and your unit.
  • Function as a mentor and coach.
  • Assist with preparation of unit schedules.
  • Establish daily work plans for team of employees.
  • Schedule staff for attendance at and completion of mandatory education.
  • Maintain current staff certifications per regulatory requirements.
  • Guide peer interviewing process in the selection of unit staff.
  • Provide input and feedback to the nurse manager in regards to team performance management.
  • Assist in development and achievement of departmental budgets and goals.
  • Assist with payroll activities such as monitoring timekeeping.
  • Effectively manage material and supply usage.
  • Assist in communicating a shared vision, mission and values within the department.
  • Facilitate ongoing problem solving that utilizes Department PI to achieve desired quality outcomes.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and education on topics such as quality and patient satisfaction.
  • Be accountable for patient/physician satisfaction, leading process improvement efforts/measures.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care according to established standards, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and support an atmosphere that supports and encourages high performance, teamwork and continual improvement of staff.
  • Help facilitate the flow of information to staff through numerous channels and opportunities.
  • Communicate clearly what is expected of others, and address issues in an objective manner.
  • Maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory standards through patient rounding, EOC (environment of care) rounding, and physician rounding.
  • Maintain knowledge and competence in areas of management and clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate flexibility from management to clinical.
  • Participate in educational programs to enhance clinical/management experience.
  • Serve as a clinical resource in area of specialty.
  • Role model clinical and professional excellence.
