About The Position

The Oncology Nurse provides professional nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. This role involves managing patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment, utilizing quality and evidence-based practice to deliver and improve care. The nurse will work closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision. Specific duties may vary depending on the department, including demonstrating knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products for Infusion/Treatment departments, or knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures for Radiation Oncology departments. The role also requires the ability to triage patients and coordinate with providers to ensure care needs are met.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Associate Degree Nursing
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Multi-State - State Board of Nursing
  • Must have current active multistate state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in state in which you live.
  • Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 are required to obtain a multistate state RN license from the state in which they live at the time of their next RN license renewal by 4/30/2026.

  • Chemo Certification - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification preferred for Infusion/Treatment departments

Responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation to determine the diagnosis or issues.
  • Performs primary and secondary patient assessments and documents in the medical record accurately and timely.
  • Documents changes and omissions of the identified plan.
  • Communicates systematic report to other care providers.
  • Coordinates care delivery; utilizes resources to promote the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in all aspects of IV therapy and hydration.
  • Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.
  • Evaluates and documents progress toward the attainment of outcomes.
  • Identifies expected interventions and outcomes for an individualized plan of care and communicates effectively with patient, family and other team members.
  • Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manages patient care based on knowledge of cancer, cancer treatment, and side effects of such treatment.
  • Uses quality and evidence based practice to deliver and improve care.
  • Works closely with more experienced clinicians for guidance and supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills in chemotherapy/biotherapy and blood products (Infusion/Treatment Depts).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of radiation therapies and procedures, including side effect and symptom management (Radiation Oncology Depts).
  • Demonstrates ability to triage patients and coordinate with provider to ensure care needs are met.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
