About The Position

The Oncology Nurse Navigator serves as an advocate for patients in accessing treatment services while promoting a positive patient experience for the individual and their family. This position also serves as a role model and resource to oncology nursing staff at UF Health St Johns with regards educational and program needs for complex clinical situations. Serves as advocate for cancer patients and their families in educational and community referral processes. Identifies opportunities for improvement in services offered by the Cancer Institute, including budgetary components. Functions as facilitator and innovator for evidence-based nursing practice through direct involvement in implementing and evaluating new techniques and equipment related to oncology nursing practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • Active FL Nursing License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Min Experience Type of Experience 5 to 7 years Clinical Nursing
  • BLS provided by the American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical expert in helping cancer patients and their families navigate through the healthcare system.
  • Serves as a patient advocate in expediting patients’ access to hospital services, minimizing delays and ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • A role model in oncology nursing for Flagler Hospital staff, acting as a resource in oncology nursing, particularly with complex clinical situations by assessing educational needs and planning programs accordingly.
  • Assist with maintaining accreditation requirements for the Cancer Institute.
  • Planning and implementing community outreach activities for the CESC, in collaboration with community organizations including the American Cancer Society.
  • Collaborates with the Hospital Medical Director, Cancer Center, in identifying and resolving patient care-related issues.
  • Collaborates with the Hospital oncologists, other physicians, staff, and community/advocacy groups to facilitate and enhance coordination of cancer care across the continuum.
