About The Position

CancerCare Manitoba is a provincial agency that provides clinical and academic services and leadership for cancer control and the treatment of blood disorders. The Oncology Nurse is responsible for providing holistic cancer care to patients over the spectrum of the oncology experience: assessment, intervention, treatment administration and follow-up in the ambulatory setting. The Oncology Nurse will participate in patient/family education, make pertinent nursing assessments, collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team and provide appropriate interventions. The incumbent must be available to work a variable schedule and work cross all sites. Nursing staff work with cytotoxic and hazardous medications on a regular basis. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and training are provided. The Float Pool provides nursing support to Outpatient Clinic, Systemic Therapy Programs, Pediatric Unit (Clinical/Systemic) across all of the CancerCare Manitoba sites, including MacCharles, St. Boniface General Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, and Grace General Hospital.

Requirements

  • Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Strong understanding of patient-centred care
  • Proficient with MS Word//Outlook and internet use
  • Satisfactory employment record
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Three (3) years’ experience within settings such as medical/surgical or ambulatory care
  • Previous experience in chemotherapy administration and IV insertion
  • Knowledge and experience with oncology
  • Experience with electronic charting
  • Ability to speak French
  • Certified Oncology Nurse [CON(C)]
  • Knowledge and experience with wound care
  • Knowledge and experience with patients receiving radiation therapy
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Leadership and self-development
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
