About The Position

The MSL serves as the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in the disease area of interest, and builds a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in their territory. The MSL is an established field-based professional with strong scientific, clinical and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology marketed products, new indications for current products, and compounds in development. Act as the local medical leader responsible for developing a tailored strategy to meet the AZ USMA priorities in the disease area, as well as the local specificities and patient needs. Develop strong working relationships in different external business settings (e.g., academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices). Lead scientific exchanges with oncologists, urologists and key members of the MDT. Lead peer-to-peer scientific/medical interactions. Gather insights on the treatment landscape, evolving healthcare environment and practice, barriers to optimal treatment and patient care or opportunities to improve outcomes of patients with cancer. Communicate internally insights, findings, and propose actions to improve patient care and outcomes. Discuss with KOLs data and educational gaps to ensure adequate use of our medicines and to inform our R&D strategy to address patient needs. Summarize appropriate clinical data into accurate and balanced information and clearly and concisely convey the most relevant information. Stay current with scientific knowledge (e.g., marketed and emerging products, competitors’ activities, key healthcare trends, anatomy & physiology; pathophysiology in relevant disease states, and current therapeutic interventions related to disease states). Attend relevant scientific meetings and conferences. Collaborate with Clin Ops on Ph3 trials from feasibility to execution of trials. Discuss and follow-up on ESRs.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (i.e. PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline
  • 2+ years of MSL experience or relevant therapeutic area experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in written documentation, one-on-one conversations and in small group dialogues
  • Ability to work independently and in groups
  • Ability to navigate within a matrixial environment
  • Strong understanding of clinical study design and protocols
  • Basic understanding of the Healthcare system, clinical trial methodology, statistics and regulatory environment
  • Excellent project management ability
  • Ability to travel (40-60% by car and plane domestic)

  • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline
