About The Position

This role involves assisting with office-based procedures using aseptic technique, managing instruments and specimens, performing disinfection, conducting point-of-care (POC) testing, and entering orders into the computer. Responsibilities include rooming patients, setting up exam/procedure rooms, performing clinical duties such as taking vital signs, administering a limited number of medications per Emory Clinic policy, conducting simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient setting. The Medical Assistant will also assist physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with patient care, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures. This includes preparing the room with necessary supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment, and ensuring the care and handling of instruments and equipment. The role requires assisting in patient preparation, transportation, and positioning, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and privacy during procedures. The Medical Assistant will observe patients for changes in condition and report them to the medical team. A thorough understanding of sterile technique and infection control principles is essential, along with practicing procedures to maintain a sterile environment. Chaperoning and assisting with intimate patient examinations are also part of the duties. Accurate POC testing is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Basic computer skills required
  • One year work experience preferred
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification in one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be renewed throughout employment
  • Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements including certification and annual skills competency

Responsibilities

  • Care for and handle instruments and equipment
  • Assist in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for the procedure
  • Provide for the physical comfort, safety, and privacy of the patient during the procedure
  • Observe patient for possible symptoms which may indicate a change in condition and report to appropriate member of medical team for immediate action
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control
  • Practice appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment
  • Chaperone and assist for every patient intimate examination
  • Perform accurate POC testing
