This role involves assisting with office-based procedures using aseptic technique, managing instruments and specimens, performing disinfection, conducting point-of-care (POC) testing, and entering orders into the computer. Responsibilities include rooming patients, setting up exam/procedure rooms, performing clinical duties such as taking vital signs, administering a limited number of medications per Emory Clinic policy, conducting simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient setting. The Medical Assistant will also assist physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with patient care, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures. This includes preparing the room with necessary supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment, and ensuring the care and handling of instruments and equipment. The role requires assisting in patient preparation, transportation, and positioning, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and privacy during procedures. The Medical Assistant will observe patients for changes in condition and report them to the medical team. A thorough understanding of sterile technique and infection control principles is essential, along with practicing procedures to maintain a sterile environment. Chaperoning and assisting with intimate patient examinations are also part of the duties. Accurate POC testing is required.
