About The Position

Compass Oncology is seeking an experienced LPN to join their outpatient Gynecology Oncology team at the West Cancer Center in Tigard, OR. This role is crucial to the interdisciplinary team, supporting providers, RNs, Medical Assistants, and schedulers in guiding patients through their cancer care journey. The LPN will utilize the nursing process to address the acute and chronic needs of cancer patients, answer clinical questions, and gather information for providers to inform care decisions. This is a full-time, 40-hour position, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a practical nurse.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current American Heart Association accredited BLS certification required within 3 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Administers treatments such as wound care, bladder scans, void trials, etc., in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to providers.
  • Orders/prescribes medications as directed by provider.
  • Provides patient education, including pre/post operative patient education on procedures, medications, and recovery expectations.
  • Responds to/refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Recognizes when escalation is required to RN to maintain compliance with nurse practice act and state regulations for LPNs.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and current medication reconciliation.
  • Performs EKG and oximetry readings as requested by the provider.
  • Sends referrals, places orders, and requests medical records as outlined by the provider.
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information.
  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
  • Participates in cross-training programs to develop skills across multiple areas of the practice and provide support where needed.
  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
