Winship is seeking qualified candidates for the Oncology Data Specialist-Certified position. This role is responsible for case finding, data abstraction, and follow-up of patients with a diagnosis of cancer. The specialist will perform clinical data abstraction by capturing the complete patient history, diagnosis, staging, and treatment information for all patients accessioned into the cancer registry in accordance with the guidelines established by the American College of Surgeon Commission on Cancer and the Georgia Central State Cancer Registry. The role utilizes cancer data collection principles and assigns codes to the extracted data based on established coding systems (STORE, SEER, ICD-O3, AJCC Staging 8th Ed) to ensure consistency and compliance with reporting guidelines. Quality assurance activities may be assigned, such as reviewing abstracted data for accuracy, peer reviews, resolution of data edits, conducting non-reportable audits to ensure all reportable cases are captured, consolidating multiple data reports into a concise record for each cancer case, and including additional treatment and follow-up information obtained after completion of the initial abstract. The position requires attending and participating in professional conferences, seminars, or workshops to stay current on information related to the Cancer Registry and cancer treatment, and adherence to HIPAA privacy regulations and other virtual office procedures. Other duties as assigned.
