About The Position

The On-Site Diesel Truck/Trailer Maintenance Technician is responsible for handling the logistical coordination of the organization’s DOT Regulated Vehicles, including Heavy Duty Diesel Tractor Trailer Units. Other duties include but are not limited to, performing periodic maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on dry vans, flatbeds, conestoga, and frameless dump trailers to ensure road readiness and safety compliance. The Tech may also perform DOT Annual Inspections, tire and wheel changes and flat tire repairs on trucks or trailers, lighting/electrical repairs, routine lubrications, brake adjustments, roof and structural repairs, door repairs, air system repairs, landing gear and other logistics business needs in all types of weather and conditions. The tech will also be responsible for maintaining a Service Truck and all tools in an orderly manner and will be responsible for maintaining a stockroom of parts, supplies, and tires. The On-Site Diesel Truck/Trailer Mechanic shall also create and maintain all associated documentation in adherence to legislation and organizational policies and procedures. In some circumstances, the On-Site Diesel Truck/Trailer Mechanic may be responsible for the safety requirements of the organization’s facilities and assets.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Two - Five years related experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Direct working knowledge of diesel vehicle operations, and transportation services.
  • Solid computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Experience in managing third-party logistics parts and service suppliers.
  • Solid project management skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Handling the logistical coordination of the organization’s DOT Regulated Vehicles, including Heavy Duty Diesel Tractor Trailer Units.
  • Performing periodic maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on dry vans, flatbeds, conestoga, and frameless dump trailers to ensure road readiness and safety compliance.
  • Performing DOT Annual Inspections, tire and wheel changes and flat tire repairs on trucks or trailers.
  • Performing lighting/electrical repairs, routine lubrications, brake adjustments, roof and structural repairs, door repairs, air system repairs, and landing gear repairs.
  • Maintaining a Service Truck and all tools in an orderly manner.
  • Maintaining a stockroom of parts, supplies, and tires.
  • Creating and maintaining all associated documentation in adherence to legislation and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Being responsible for the safety requirements of the organization’s facilities and assets (in some circumstances).
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring performance metrics for transportation, logistics carrier needs.
  • Creating, monitoring, and reporting on weekly and monthly logistics key performance indicators.
  • Negotiating with and managing contracts and service level agreements for third party suppliers and/or service providers.
  • Working with inventory planning personnel to minimize shortages and improve inventory holdings.
  • Providing monthly updates on the status of projects and giving progress reports on other process improvement initiatives.
  • Providing administration for the warehousing, vehicle service, and parts supply system and regularly reviewing performance expectations with leadership team.
  • Communicating the organization's safety policies in accordance with applicable federal safety standards and local laws.
  • Conducting fleet management/service on company vehicles as necessary.
  • Maintaining database of parts, supplies.
  • Maintaining relationships with home carrier group and servicing members.
  • Building and maintaining daily reports related to logistics.
  • Performing other duties as required.
