About The Position

Our Garber Transportation drivers are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. We provide safe, reliable transportation for clients, many of whom are older adults experiencing isolation, to medical appointments, errands, and social engagements in the metro area. Hours of operation are between first pick-up at 8:00am to last pick-up at 3:30pm, Monday – Friday (no weekends or holidays when JFCS is closed.) The On-Call Garber Driver provides transportation services to JFCS clients by covering scheduled shifts when staff drivers are unavailable due to vacations, illness, or other absences. The Transportation/Meals on Wheels Supervisor will provide as much advance notice as possible for driving assignments, recognizing that the on-call driver's availability may vary. The person who joins us will become part of a long-standing, dedicated team of staff and volunteer drivers who are committed to providing safe, reliable transportation with kindness, professionalism, and respect. Requirements

  • Background in transportation or successful previous work experience.
  • Knowledge of area roads and highways required.
  • Must have use of car, valid Minnesota driver’s license, auto insurance with appropriate coverage limits and clean driver record.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with older adults preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Russian preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pick clients up at established locations and transport them to established destinations within desired timeframes.
  • Assist with entry to and exit from the car. May escort between building and vehicle.
  • Notify supervisor of changes in client status, concerns about clients and any out of the ordinary incidents including changes or cancellations.
  • Establish daily assignments with Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records including time sheets and expense reports
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of clients.
  • Attend meetings as directed by Supervisor.
  • Participate in biannual performance evaluation reviews.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
