About The Position

The Staff Chaplain, Per Diem, provides flexible, compassionate spiritual care and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers on an as-needed basis. This role is after hours and on call and supports in-home patients, contracted facilities, the hospice house. Additionally, the Chaplain contributes to community crisis intervention and provides debriefings and support sessions for staff and community members. This position offers flexibility in scheduling and is ideal for professionals seeking to provide meaningful spiritual care at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in divinity, theology, psychology, or a related discipline from an accredited school of higher education.
  • Completion of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training or must be obtained within twenty-four (24) months of hire date.
  • Competency in electronic medical records and documentation practices.
  • Available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as part of the on-call rotation.
  • Valid driver’s license and insured under Washington State vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to independently travel within Tri-Cities Chaplaincy’s service area.
  • Ability to report to assigned work location(s) as scheduled and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.
  • Available to work two (2) shifts per month.
  • Available to work two (2) holidays per twelve (12) month period.
  • Demonstrate support and adherence to the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Satisfy state and agency health requirements by providing proof of immunization, declinations, or approved accommodations as applicable.
  • Pass criminal background and drug screenings.
  • Meet the physical and environmental requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Be available to work as assigned or scheduled.

Nice To Haves

  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
  • One (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a training site accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
  • Chaplaincy experience in hospice, palliative care, hospital, or crisis ministry settings.
  • Experience in end-of-life care and crisis intervention.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Provides flexible, compassionate spiritual care and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers on an as-needed basis.

  • Contributes to community crisis intervention.
  • Provides debriefings and support sessions for staff and community members.
  • Participates in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs, including hospice care, advanced planning, and bereavement services.
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Protects patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines, accessing information only on a need-to-know basis.
  • Completes agency and departmental orientation and required training programs.
  • Completes ongoing education, policy reviews, and training by designated deadlines.
  • Maintains current licensure(s) and certifications(s) required for the role.
  • Reads, writes, speaks, and understands English fluently.
  • Is available to work as assigned or scheduled.
