On-Call Mental Health Crisis Clinician (Clinician II)

About The Position

The Johnson County Mental Health Center is seeking a Mental Health Clinician to provide mental health crisis services through its Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) and 988 call center. The MCRT, part of the Emergency Services Division, consists of crisis case managers and licensed clinicians who work in the community to resolve emergency situations, reduce the need for hospitalization and law enforcement interaction, and connect clients to resources. Johnson County Mental Health operates on a Strengths Perspective, emphasizing dignity, respect, and client strengths. The ideal candidate will be passionate about public service, possess strong skills in crisis intervention, suicide and safety assessments, and be a dedicated advocate for clients. This is a PRN position to support overnight and weekend MCRT operations, with potential for last-minute needs. Schedule options will be discussed during the hiring process. This position is eligible for shift differentials for weekday overnight, weekend, and weekend overnight hours. Additionally, Johnson County offers a skill-based pay plan of up to $4,200 annually for staff with clinical-level licensure by the BSRB.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field.
  • Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master’s level in the area of focus.
  • May require a KS/MO driver’s license, depending on department or agency.
  • Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if Kansas licensure is obtained by time of an employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of employment application.
  • Reference/background screening is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level.
  • One year of experience in the area of focus.

Responsibilities

  • Respond across Johnson County as part of a 2-person team, providing mobile crisis interventions to individuals in crisis.
  • Assess for suicide risk and other safety concerns to determine the least restrictive level of care, developing safety plans or coordinating higher levels of care.
  • Provide support, education, and connection to resources for appropriate crisis response.
  • Conduct outreach and follow-up to prevent mental health crisis and/or criminal justice recidivism.
  • Collaborate with JCMHC teams, law enforcement, family members, hospitals, and other community agencies to advocate for individuals' needs.
  • Complete and submit clinical documentation regarding services provided.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement on emergency detentions as appropriate and may complete state hospitalization screenings.
  • Provide ongoing clinical support for clients on MCRT case managers’ caseloads, including outreach visits for clinical assessment, safety planning, and crisis stabilization.
  • Cross-train on 988 Contact Center duties, including calls, chats, and texts.
