WSP has immediate openings for on-call Field Archaeologists for multiple surveys planned in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. This is an on-call, as needed, temporary hourly position. Hourly rates are industry competitive, depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience and anticipated to start at 22 dollars an hour. Candidates local to Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered. Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology or a closely related field;
  • Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience;
  • Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with archaeological sites in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and the surrounding region;
  • Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis; post-Contact artifact analysis

Responsibilities

  • Assist with multiple Phase I Intensive Cultural Resources Surveys, with specific tasks including: Pedestrian survey ;
  • excavation and recording shovel tests;
  • recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
  • use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information;
  • Work effectively as part of a team;
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures;
