On Call Custodian
About The Position
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all areas assigned. This role involves performing janitorial duties, operating motorized cleaning equipment, and maintaining daily upkeep of assigned areas. The position also includes responsibilities related to hazardous waste management, such as collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste. The Custodian must comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures, report incidents and hazardous conditions, and work effectively in a team environment. They are expected to perform repetitive tasks, maintain a clean work area, follow all company protocols, take direction from supervision, and fill in during staff shortages. Additionally, the role requires supporting the shift lead, using proper personal protective equipment, presenting a professional appearance and conduct, understanding customer service and satisfaction, and understanding reporting systems and the environment.
Requirements
- No specific education requirement, 3-6 months training or experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A valid driver's license may be required for this position based on business needs.
- Employees required to drive as part of their job duties must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet company driving eligibility requirements.
- Completed all safety and task training certification.
- May be required to be forklift certified.
- Bilingual a plus
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment and willing to share with team
- Knowledge of the upkeep and care of the cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform janitorial duties
- Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule
- Perform Hazardous Waste responsibilities including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, packaging of special and hazardous waste.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment
- Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area
- Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Stop at risk behavior of others and self
- Perform work assignments in a team with other employees
- Perform repetitive tasks
- Maintain clean work area
- Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules
- Take direction and respond to supervision
- Talk with lead, supervisor, co-workers, managers, and customers in a professional manner
- Fill in during staff shortage
- Support shift lead in completing punch-list items
- Use proper personal protective equipment
- Present a professional appearance and conduct
- Understand customer service and satisfaction
- Understand reporting systems, and of the environment
