About The Position

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks an On-Call Chaplain for their Spiritual Care department responsible for providing spiritual care to patients, families, hospital personnel, and medical staff by assisting them in the integration of the experience of illness, trauma, and loss with their own religious beliefs and convictions. Serves as a liaison with physicians, patient/families, and the Bioethics Committee in addressing ethical issues regarding treatment decisions. Works closely with community clergy, acting as a contact between hospital and parish communities to ensure continuity of spiritual care.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree with at least 1 completed unit, or current enrollment in a unit, of CPT from an accredited ACPE (Association of Clinical Pastoral Education) or CPSP (College of Pastoral Supervision & Psychotherapy) training center. If currently enrolled, the unit must be completed within 3 months of hire.
• Letter of good standing from denominational faith affiliate.
• Current or eligible for associate level certification with APC (Association of Professional Chaplains) or CPSP cognate group within 18-months of hire.
• 1 year of chaplaincy or ministerial experience or completion of 1 year chaplaincy internship with Cottage Health.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in theology or related field.
• 4 units of CPE from an accredited ACPE or CPSP center.
• Ecclesiastical endorsement by one's denominational affiliate to include ordination or active ordination process for denominations requiring such as standing for official ministerial credentialing.
• Board Certification as a Clinical Chaplain through APC or CPSP.
• 1-3 years of hospital chaplaincy experience.
• Experience working in clinical specialty areas, addressing spiritual and ethical issues.
