On-Call Archaeologist | KS
About The Position
As an On-Call Archaeologist, you will support a variety of cultural resource projects across the Midwest region, with a strong focus on work within the states of Illinois and Indiana. This position is not tied to a specific location, offering the opportunity to contribute to diverse field and research efforts throughout the broader region. Eocene Environmental Group has spent the past two decades providing environmental, utility vegetation management (UVM), software and sustainability services. We are fortunate to be a part of the Wright Service Corp. family, which has helped us establish a strong foundation for continued growth and success. Through a strategic alignment of values and goals, four Wright Service Corp. entities joined and integrated into one, operating as Eocene Environmental Group. These four entities are: Forestry & Utility Division, Environmental Division, Technology & Innovation Division, and Sustainability Division.
Requirements
- Holds a bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field
- Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in the Midwest region
- Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and IOs/IFs in the Midwest region
- Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
- Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) to document cultural resources
- Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for phone or tablet)
- Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Crew Member for the project
- Conduct Phase I and Phase II cultural resources surveys
- Document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs
- Conduct probing or shovel testing
- Use hand-held field technology (i.e., ArcGIS phone/tablet application paired with sub-meter GPS receivers)
- Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)
- Ability to walk 4-10 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs
- Work independently and efficiently, while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
- Follow instruction and make adjustments when provided feedback
- Support, actively participate in, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures
- Position will require outside travel
