About The Position

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Program Counselor for the Office of Learner Success and Engagement (OLSE). This role will support current and potential students by assisting with career exploration, providing information on educational programs, aiding with program registration, and conducting orientations for new students in Workforce Training programs and general SVHEC students. The position will also support the SVHEC Testing and Assessment Center, including WorkKeys and Pearson Vue testing, assist the Director of Student and Partner Advancement and the Manager of the Office of Learner Success and Engagement with their duties, and contribute to the agency's strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in student counseling and advising.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of office practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of utilizing a student information system.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and compile reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to use word processing, spreadsheet/database applications and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in exam proctoring.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential data.
  • Must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive coursework in Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • Pearson VUE or other test proctor certification.
  • Considerable work experience of grant writing and grants management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with career exploration.
  • Provide information on educational programs.
  • Assist with program registration.
  • Provide orientation for new students in Workforce Training programs.
  • Provide a general SVHEC orientation for all students taking classes at the SVHEC from partner institutions.
  • Assist with all activities of the SVHEC Testing and Assessment Center, including WorkKeys and Pearson Vue testing.
  • Assist the Director of Student and Partner Advancement and the Manager of the Office of Learner Success and Engagement with assigned duties.
  • Assist the department and agency in accomplishing the goals of the SVHEC Strategic Plan.
