About The Position

DCAS's mission is to make city government work for all New Yorkers. From managing New York City's most iconic courthouses and municipal buildings, to purchasing over $1 billion annually in goods and services for more than 80 City agencies. Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages, operates, and maintains 56 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs, working to provide clean, safe, and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings. FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings, managed by Building Services, Fire & Life Safety, and other critical field staff, as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects, which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects, engineers, and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio.

Requirements

  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • One and one-half years of experience as described in "1" above plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program.
  • One year of experience as described in "1" above plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.
  • Only permanent employees in the civil service title of Oiler or those reachable on exam# 3101, and 5095 are eligible to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Oiler should obtain a fire safety directors certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lubrication of power plant, pumping and/or construction equipment.
  • Lubricate and clean pumps, engines, blowers, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors, bridge cables and other operating equipment.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of this equipment.
  • Read meters and gauges.
  • Keep logs.
  • Operate lubricant filtering and purifying equipment.
  • Maintain lubricant inventory.
  • May operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Maintain equipment so GHG emissions and local laws pertaining to energy codes are met.
