About The Position

Join the Department of Environmental Protection as an Oil and Gas Inspector. This role places you on the front lines of environmental safety and responsible energy development. You will ensure that wells, reservoirs, and related activities follow state laws and regulations that protect safety, public health, and the environment.

Requirements

  • Three years of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry; or An associate's degree in Petroleum Technology or closely related field, and one year of technical experience in well design, drilling, completion, production, plugging, or underground storage operations in the oil or natural gas industry.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Follow departmental safety policies and conduct gas migration checks when conditions indicate possible hazards
  • Inspect wells throughout all operational phases and document conditions with reports, photographs, and required system entries
  • Evaluate gas storage reservoirs and related equipment to confirm safe pressures and structural integrity
  • Investigate concerns about oil and gas activities, determine ownership issues, and recommend actions for abandoned wells
  • Keep detailed files, prepare required reports, and manage inventories and documentation according to policy
  • Identify violations, recommend corrective actions, prepare notices, and provide testimony when required
