About The Position

Quad is seeking a Second Shift Offset Sheetfed Platemaker at its Franklin, WI plant. This entry-level position offers training and is responsible for overseeing the plate-making process. This includes generating impositions from single-page files, creating plates, troubleshooting issues, inspecting for quality, and collaborating with internal customers to support the printing process. The facility is a modern packaging plant producing folding cartons and blister cards with advanced printing and finishing equipment, emphasizing quality, safety, and teamwork. Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of Windows and Macintosh computers.
  • Must be able to set up and maintain the automated platemaker.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift 10-15 pounds continuously.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Sitting and standing for long hours (8-hour shift).
  • Use hands and wrists continuously in controlled movement.
  • Receive and follow instructions.
  • Use vision to identify defects.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of press operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with paperboard carton production and processing is a plus.
  • Understand input, output, raw material, waste, quality control, cost, and techniques for maximizing the manufacturing and distribution of goods process.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine the root cause.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm accuracy and completeness of job orders.
  • Build computer to plate CTP layouts. Verify accuracy and any defects.
  • Perform coating blanket manufacturing tasks as required.
  • Stage Plate Carts per schedule with necessary items for press production (inks, plates, coating blankets, job orders, artwork, samples, etc.).
  • Responsible for maintaining and upkeep of artwork proof filing system both pre and postproduction.
  • Protect client products and aid Quad in securing and maintaining key industry certifications through consistent adherence to quality, satisfaction, and excellence standards represented by AIB International, cGMP, FSC Chain of custody, ISO, and SFI Chain-of-Custody certifications.
  • Assist with maintaining, organizing, staging, and ordering necessary supplies for the Plate and Ink rooms.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot plate room equipment, including working with and around plate processing chemicals.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Crosstrain as assigned.
  • Know and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow and comply with all food safety and quality policies.
  • Report any food safety issues or concerns to the Site Leadership Team.
  • Maintain production records following Good Documentation Practices.
