About The Position

This is a highly responsible position involving the verbatim reporting of judicial proceedings at high rates of speed and the preparation of verbatim transcripts. The role requires maintaining electronic backup storage of proceedings and keeping possession of exhibits until otherwise directed by the court. Additional administrative duties may be assigned by the chief judge or designee. All work is performed in accordance with established procedures and is reviewed for accuracy and content. Minimal travel within the district and to other judicial districts may be required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal training in machine shorthand or voice writing program.
  • Experience with using computer equipment.
  • No fear of technology.
  • Possess a Kansas Certified Court Reporter certificate (or eligible to obtain a temporary certificate) in compliance with applicable Kansas Supreme Court rules.

Responsibilities

  • Verbatim reporting of judicial proceedings at high rates of speed.
  • Preparing verbatim transcripts as required.
  • Maintaining electronic backup storage of proceedings.
  • Keeping all exhibits in possession until otherwise requested by the court.
  • Performing other administrative duties as assigned by the chief judge or designee.
  • Traveling minimally within the district and to other judicial districts.
