About The Position

The Disciplinary Hearing Authority Officer (DHA) conducts appeal hearings for students who have been suspended for more than ten (10) school days. The DHA ensures adherence to due process and supports successful student transitions between comprehensive schools and Alternative Learning Centers (ALCs).

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Educational Administration or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of school administration experience
  • Certificated Administrator license
  • Fair and unbiased decision-making ability.
  • Non-confrontational people skills.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with all parties (may require use of a translator).
  • The ability to interpret and apply student discipline codes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated hearing authority (DHA) for discipline appeal hearings, ensuring compliance with Metro Nashville Public Schools policies, state and federal regulations, and student due process requirements.
  • Provide individualized student support services, including weekly student check-ins, mentoring, goal setting, behavioral coaching, and progress monitoring.
  • Collaborate with students and school administrators during informal hearings to develop and implement intervention strategies aimed at improving student behavior.
  • Maintain detailed monthly service logs documenting student contacts, interventions provided, progress updates, and recommendations for continued support.
