About The Position

The Law Librarian will provide reasonable and meaningful access to the WMCI law library. They will instruct inmates on how and where to access requested information, provide information on the availability and use of forms, and guide inmates through the general research process. This role is crucial for ensuring inmates have access to legal resources within the correctional facility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the organization and management of information and materials services
  • Knowledge of research, indexing, records management, and databases
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of education
  • Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer systems
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and policies, technical processes, and procedures related to the department
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting, basic accounts payable and purchasing
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service
  • Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
  • 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Assistant II
  • Pre-service and annual in-service training is required, which includes Krav Maga defensive tactics
  • Must pass a background/reference check, medical evaluation, and drug test prior to appointment
  • Must meet the standards of the strict dress code policy to include standards for facial hair, body art, and piercings/gauges

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the law library
  • E-filing US District Court of Wyoming and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals documents
  • Copying/printing
  • Notary services
  • Updating Policies and Procedures for inmate distribution in the library
  • Providing inmates with legal forms for the court (e.g., divorce packets)
  • Logging the inmate's computer daily usage
  • Legal research via the internet on LexisNexis and other legal sites
  • Answering inmate single-page request forms
  • Visiting specialty units, check-in and check-out law library material
  • Ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace
  • Participating in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment
