The Business Services Charter Filing & Processing Unit is custodian of documents relating to the organization and ownership of many types of business entities that are required to file documents with the State. These documents include charters for Maryland corporations and qualifications and registrations for foreign corporations. The unit is also the custodian of security interest (UCC) filings. The incumbent is responsible for handling service of process for the Department pursuant to Maryland Rules, Sections 2-124 and 3-124, and the Maryland Courts and Judicial Proceedings Code Annotated, Section 6-307. Additionally, the incumbent compiles documents in response to subpoenas for Department records and serves as the first-level resource for all inquiries regarding service of process.
