About The Position

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Summer Intern to join our Office of the Executive Medical Director department. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, internship opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, DC with a hybrid work model. Please note, this position is ineligible for benefits. The summer internship program runs for about 12 weeks with a start date of May 29th, and end date of August 15th. Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. Reporting to the Executive Medical Director, the Summer Intern will support the development of a novel program focused on building high-quality, high-trust communities of care for MAPMG’s most vulnerable patient populations. You will collaborate across departments and with community partners to identify engagement barriers, design interventions, and help establish evaluation strategies to improve trust, access, and outcomes in value-based care initiatives. You can expect to: Develop insights on drivers of lower engagement and care gaps among vulnerable patient populations Prepare analyses and supporting materials related to program design and evaluation planning Partner with internal stakeholders and community organizations to co-design interventions that improve engagement and trust Provide operational and strategic support related to MAPMG Key Performance Indicators and community initiatives Assist the Executive Medical Director with cross-departmental coordination and special projects aligned with population health priorities Support additional initiatives as assigned that advance MAPMG’s value-based care strategy

Requirements

  • Must be a current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in public health, healthcare administration, business, population health, or a related field; recent college graduates are ineligible for the internship program
  • Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, for a minimum of 12 weeks
  • Interest or coursework related to population health, health equity, value-based care, healthcare analytics, or community engagement initiatives
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to work across departments and levels of leadership
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills with a proactive mindset
  • Enthusiasm for advancing high-performing value-based care for diverse Mid-Atlantic populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be able to commute to the Washington D.C. regional office as needed
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment. Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting healthcare initiatives, community partnerships, research, or project coordination is a plus
  • Experience with project management tools such as Loop, OneNote, Project Workbench, or similar platforms preferred
