About The Position

Toole Design is seeking an experienced civil engineer with a multimodal transportation background to serve as Office Director for its Los Angeles team. The Director will lead the office, act as a key liaison with company leadership and external partners, and help shape and strengthen the firm's Western practice. The role includes fostering an inclusive, collaborative workplace; managing and overseeing projects; pursuing and winning work; ensuring high-quality, equity-centered project delivery; and mentoring and recruiting staff. The Director will work on initiatives throughout Los Angeles, California, and the West, in collaboration with regional and nationwide colleagues. Toole Design is an employee-owned, purpose-driven firm of engineers, planners, landscape architects, and urban designers focused on safer, more connected communities and sustainable multimodal transportation design. The company describes its culture as collaborative and inclusive, with support from operations teams and company leadership. The position follows a hybrid schedule, with shared office days Tuesday through Thursday. The targeted salary range is $165,000–$210,000, with placement depending on technical discipline, experience, and qualifications. Requirements

Degree in civil engineering.
At least 12 years of experience.
At least 5 years of experience in a consulting firm or similar setting.
Recent experience with and active relationships at Los Angeles-area public sector agencies.
Experience managing staff.
Experience pursuing and winning competitively bid work.
Ability to solve problems, provide a high level of client service, and help others navigate tricky situations.
Effective communication, analytical judgment, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Ability to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget.
Passion for multimodal transportation and sustainable design, and an inclusive approach to working with diverse teams.

Nice To Haves

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
